The identity of the Believer in Christ.

A-     The identity of the Believer in Christ.

Identity is all about whom you are; your real personality; the essence of your life. Identity comes from Greek “psuché” which means the vital breath; breath of life; the human soul; the soul as the seat of affection and will; the self; a human person, an individual.

It’s imperative for every believer to know his/her identity as a born again child of God. It’s our identity in Christ that makes us to know who we are and our place of destiny in Christ. Failure to know who we are will be a means to Satan to take advantage of our destinies. Identity crisis is a destiny crisis. A believer, who does not know his /her essence of life, can lose his/her place of destiny. If you don’t know who you are, anybody can ascribe any identity unto you. You can be traumatized, treated abnormally, being called as unrighteous for not knowing who you are in Christ and the finished work of Christ accomplished on your behalf. Take note: the first thing God gave to man was not dominion over the creatures, neither the woman; the first thing man received from his creator was the breath of life, the identity, the image. Until man is fully aware about his identity in Christ, life will be a puzzle to him. Total knowledge about self identity is the victory over religious scammers.  The world is suffering from identity crisis that’s why; they mess up with their life. It takes knowledge in God’s word to experience freedom from self identity crisis.

Here are some of the fundamental traits that describes you, that reveals you and that shows you your place of destiny in Christ:

1-      Predestinated

Predestination means that God has a purpose that is determined long before it is brought to pass. God has a purpose and a plan concerning our lives before we came to being. God has designed our destiny and he has fully established it before we were born. “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will” _Ephesians 1: 5. We were brought to the family of God through the adoption by Jesus Christ; predestinated for sonship unto Christ since the foundation of the world. This mystery has been kept secret for ages and generation, but now is disclosed, revealed to the sons of God (Colossians 1:26).  Our inheritance in Christ has been obtained on the basis of being adopted by Christ Jesus. It’s our knowing and living in Him that guarantees it manifestations. “In whom also, we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” _Ephesians 1:11.

2-      Foreknow :

Foreknow is to have previous knowledge of; know beforehand especially by paranormal means or by revelation. Romans 8:29, “For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren” _AMP. God foreknew us before we were framed in our mother’s womb. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew [and approved of you [as my chosen instrument], and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” _Jeremiah 1:5 AMP.

3-      Chosen:

Every believer in Christ is a chosen of God. No one cometh to Christ except it is drawn by God. Ephesians 1:4, “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and without blame before him in love” we have been divinely selected and chosen by God. We belong to Him, chosen to be sanctified and to live in the spirit. Our salvation have been fixed from the beginning by God; marked for eternal salvation. 2 Thessalonians 2:13,”But we, brethren beloved by the Lord, ought and are obligated [as those who are in debt] to give thanks always to God for you, because God chose you from the beginning as His firstfruits (first converts) for salvation through the sanctifying work of the [holy] spirit and [your] belief in (adherence to, trust in, and reliance on) the truth”.

1 Peter 2:9, “But ye are chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”.

4-      Crucified with Christ.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” _Galatians 2:20.  By faith, we adamantly believe that Christ crucifixion was our crucifixion. Our sins and transgressions were crucified with Christ. He has ransomed us and pay for our sins on the cross of Calvary. All sickness, diseases, curses, sin, struggles were crucified on the cross. It’s obvious, that we have been crucified with Christ and we no longer live for sin and for ourselves. The life we live in the flesh is by faith in Christ Jesus. “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul” _1 Peter 2:11.This is very important for our day to day living: abstaining from fleshly lusts; it wars against the soul. 1 Peter 2:24, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed”.

5-      Dead with Christ:

“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him” _Romans 6:6-8. We have to know, and be fully persuaded that our sinful nature, the old man was done away on the cross, that we might be free from the bondage of sin; and serve sin no more. The death of Christ was the death of our old man. Sin has no more power over the believer in Christ, because the sinful body was crucified and destroyed. We henceforth live in the liberty in Christ Jesus, our victory over sin. Our nature is no more sinful but spiritual which was molded in the form of Christ. “And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” _Colossians 2:13-14.

“For ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God” _Colossians 3:3. Christ death has sealed us with God. Our sinful nature was dead with Christ that our life may be hid with Christ in God. We have been buried with him by baptism unto death and raised with Him unto glory. Romans 6:4, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in newness of life”.

6-      Raised with Christ:

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God” _Romans 7:4. The resurrection power has united us with Christ, by redeeming us from the law, so that we might be married with Christ. Resurrection has divorced us from the law, that we should be married to Christ. We cannot be in Christ and still be a servant to the law. We become dead to the law by the body of Christ. We were raised from the law, that we should be married to Christ. It’s this translation that guarantees our fruitfulness in God. Ephesians 2:6, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.  It’s obvious that we have been raised with Christ, and our place of destiny is not below but above. We have been made sited with Christ in the heavenly places above all things.

Colossians 2:12, “Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead”.

7-      Sited and Glorified:

Ephesians 2:6, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.

Romans 8:30, “And those whom He thus foreordained, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified (acquitted, made righteous, putting them into right standing with Himself). And those whom He justified, He also glorified [raising them to a heavenly dignity and condition or state of being]. Without controversy great is the love of God manifested towards us; for He made us sited with Christ in heavenly places and being raised to a heavenly dignity and condition or state of being.
1Peter 4: 14, “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of but on your part he is glorified”.
